A crown (or cap) is a protective covering over the entire tooth that protects the tooth from breaking while improving the esthetics. A crown is often needed when large fillings fail, a tooth breaks, or simply to improve esthetics. Crowns can often be done in two appointments. The tooth is prepared at the first visit and a temporary is worn until the final crown is ready for fitting and cementation.
A bridge is three or more connected crowns with a false crown(s) in between that replaces a missing tooth. The teeth adjacent to the missing tooth act as supporting structures of the bridge. A bridge is a long lasting solution for missing teeth that is cemented to the teeth permanently.
